After installing OPNsense version 26.1.7, users (including root) are unable to save changes through the GUI (e.g., comments, emails, etc.).

Edit: It doesn't show an error, but the Save button does nothing. There are no error logs in the GUI.

Can you help?

Did you hit Apply Changes button at the top after saving ?

Thank you for your reply.

When I click SAVE, nothing happens. The expected outcome is the window disappearing and returning to the user list.

This option doesn't have an "Apply Changes" button at the top.

local:
System : Access : Users : edit : edituser

Thats the browser issue then. You are either zoomed in a lot, or have something that breaks/blocks elements on the page. Probably antivirus solution or some browser plugin.

I understand your response, but unfortunately I've already tested it with another browser and on another PC and it didn't solve the problem.

I created a new user in the new version and it started working correctly.

The root user cannot be replaced and is having the problem.

I wanted to understand what happened. I don't have much experience with OpenSense (1 week). There should be errors in the logs, right?

Could it be some change in this version, as has happened in previous versions? I've already looked for something wrong in user/conf/config.xml, but I didn't find anything.

I've been using Sophos Firewall Home for over 2 years and never had similar problems. I'm looking for a more customized and lighter firewall and I believe OpenSense is the answer.

I have everything working on OpenSense (VPN, Zenamor, DDNS, HTTPS, CrowdSec, IPGEO, Monitor, etc.)... but this problem is killing me :(

In that case, the only thing that pops to my mind is hardware issue. Your ram or your storage might be dying and corrupting the data. Just my wild guess. I have 26.1.7 running on my systems, and never had any issues with it.

I had already thought about that, but I want to believe that's not it.

For now, I've disabled root (config.xml) and added a user with sudo privileges. Everything is working without errors in the logs and at 900Mbps/900Mbps in a VM with an AMD R1600 (it's at the limit).

Let's see how it behaves in the next few days and see if I don't revert to the Sophos firewall home.

Thank you very much for your help. Best regards.

Some suggestions:

- Invalid character
- Clear your browser's cache
- Test using your browser in In-Private mode

I've already tried your suggestions, using Edge, Chrome, and Firefox, and/or in private mode and with a clear cache... nothing solved this problem.

Thank you for your help.

You are running out of options. Everything points at the hardware issue/missconfiguration.

I've already discovered the source.
Whenever I change the Dashboard (remove or add a widget), a <dashboard> tag with incorrect formatting is created in the user's line in the config.xml file.
When I delete the tag, the user can save correctly again.
Why is the tag incorrectly formatted?

Thank you for your help.

I can confirm on my template firewall instances, both BE and CE,
which I use to deploy for production environments for a new sub key or a CE user.

I ran through a few tests in the hopes this helps development.

OPNsense BE 26.4_6-amd64:
No issues editing a user with a heavily modified Dashboard
No issues adding a new user with a password.
No issues editing previous user, and new user passwords.

OPNsense CE 26.1.6-amd64:
No issues editing a user with a heavily modified Dashboard.
No issues adding a new user with a password.
No issues editing previous user, and new user passwords.

OPNsense CE 26.1.7_1-amd64 :::::::::::
Cannot edit user with a heavily modified Dashboard.
No issues adding a new user with similar privileges.
No issues editing the new user with no prior Dashboard..
After resetting the Dashboard of the trouble user, the user can be edited.

Workarounds to edit the original user:
Reset the dashboard of the trouble user, and proceed to edit the user.
Edit a fresh config and insert a new password created from the passwd utility.

The problem returns immediately:
When heavily modifying the dashboard, the problem returns.
The problem desists if the dashboard is left in a default reset state.

I miss when I could import just the dashboard config, and transplant just it across multiple sites.
I noticed that option disappeared in the Backup/Restore when we moved to the improved interface.

Also please keep the Track Interface v6 / ISC DHCP v4/v6 available as long as possible or
until the feature is reproduced in whatever is the 'improved' way to do it.
From a GUI perspective it shouldn't matter what the underlying OSS Technology is,
it doesn't look good if there are like 2 or 3 competing services, and the newer ones remove features
we build infrastructure with.

It works perfectly, especially with our local few internet providers.

I am better at IT than I am sales. It is really hard to sell an underappreciated intangible like this,
especially when I encourage my clients to purchase a 3-year subscription.
Like an insurance agent sells insurance, you never appreciate it until you need it.
Life gets harder with a rug moving under us.
If I need DHCP, I just need to find DHCP services, configure my scopes, leases, prefixes etc.
I shouldn't need to worry if it's ISC, DNSMasq, Kea, CoreDHCP, Dibbler, udhcpd, wide, etc.

I think CISCO only gives you one service and handles its own underlying service.
But don't think like Cisco, think better than them.

Thank you have a great week.

Love, A3
