so i downloaded 16.7 and upgraded to 17.1 through the console. I'm online but this prevents me from doing an offline install (my internet access is slow, and metered)

Thanks so much for the suggestion to install an old version, it worked!

If you see a login prompt, log in as "installer" with the root password...
