Hi all,

update from 25.7 to 25.7.1 fails with this error:

Number of packages to be upgraded: 17

The operation will free 62 MiB.
[1/17] Upgrading abseil from 20250127.0 to 20250127.1...

Any idea what went wrong?

Thanks and best regards,
Jochen

Try the cleanup "audit" from the firmware: status tab and then try again.

Franco

Hi Franco,

thanks for help! Now it downloads the needed packages but says:

...
[12/14] Fetching opnsense-25.7.1_1.pkg: .......... done
[13/14] Fetching py311-duckdb-1.3.2.pkg: .......... done
[14/14] Fetching sudo-1.9.17p2.pkg: .......... done

Child process pid=97817 terminated abnormally: Abort trap
Starting web GUI...done.
***DONE***

What does that mean?
Could there be a problem with my SSD since some time ago I've read about an input/output error?

Edit:
Huh, seems to be the same error like here: https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=48340.0

Thanks and best regards,
Jochen

Hi Jochen,

I'm not sure. I'd try to go the opnsense-bootstrap route to see if this is an issue with the package database not working correctly.

The error in the package manager has been known to happen for "reasons" but resolution is fuzzy ("overcome by events") https://github.com/freebsd/pkg/issues/1411

Cheers,
Franco

I have the same problem cant update past 25.7. Disaster. I have a CWWK N100, AliExpress box. Trier a fresh install, bare no plug ins and update to 25.7.1 crashs every thing. back to 25.7 works great up till then. Something in software not compatible. so I will stay at 25.7 and not update until there is a solution or have to go back to pfsense, not sure its better as i have not tested it. For me it seems to be a hardware software issue.  playing with this for 2 days, driving me nuts. I have not seen many posts with this problem or any solution. ps i even changed the nvme drive just in case. still no love.uhg

I also had issues updating from 25.7 to 25.7.1, was hanging after unpacking a package, it continued happening even after 3 restarts and unloading all packages or full factory reset. I am running virtualised in proxmox 9 beta so I saved config, deleted the disk, did a fresh install of 25.7 and loaded config during first boot logged in using root and ran update within console, then logged out and logged back in as installer to write to disk. Only upgraded from 25.7 as I was having random issues with cpu suddenly going to 75% usage and still forwarding some packets but essentially rendering the firewall useless, problem still persist but seems to be happening a lot less frequently. Had no issues on 25.1, was running that since release without issue only 25.7 onwards is it happening.

I had same problem.  I ended up doing fresh install of 25.7 and upgraded to 25.7.1 and then restored my backup.
