Hi, to all, new to the forum.

Would like some help picking the hardware.

My ISP just upgraded it's network to 6Gbit speed, and now my EdgeRouter4 will be too slow.
Was already thinking of moving to mo to OPNsense, this just accelerated the move.

Knowing my self, I will properly end up doing heavy filtering on my traffic.

What CPU am I going to need?
I have an i7 9600K and 3800X (possible upgrade to 5000 series) still lying around, would that be enough, and what would be the best pick?

For network card, I have a X710-DA2.

At least a single thread performance of 3500 (cpubenchmark)
Under this level, you can't reach 8gbps with one stream (and only with filtering workloads)
NC-C362 pfSense (C3558, 1Gb/s)
A2SDI-H-TF pfSense (C3758, 10Gb/s)

From where you got this value? Any link/reference of the source as it might be useful?

Here maybe? https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

Each benchmark has different performance metrics so I'm not certain this is what you need.
