crosspost on italian forum: opnsense 23.1 and lost connection with multi nic

I am definitely new to the world of BSD and Opnsense. I bought a Futro S920 (which has one onboard NIC) and added a multi-port NIC (4) to it. I installed Opnsense and configured the WAN on the native port re0. Everything works fine until I start to configure the other four ports. I configure re0 as WAN with IP 192.168.10.100/24, and physically connect it to the router, a Fritzbox. It is configured as a completely exposed host on the Fritzbox, and everything is fine so far. I can connect to the host and configure various options through the GUI.
As soon as I assign an IP, for example 10.168.10.100/24, to one of the other four ports, for example em0, configuring it as lan1 and connecting it to a switch, the machine stops responding, and the only way to make it responsive again is to connect the machine to a monitor and reset the settings (I haven't tried via serial). Can anyone clarify if I am making a mistake or if there is something really wrong?

There is too little information here: What do you mean by "stops responding"?
If the machine responds over the network without any LAN connections, how would you even know when it stops responding once you connect it?
Or does the machine stop working completely, even to key presses, suggesting a hardware problem?
So how do you judge if the machine responds or acts differently once you connect the LAN? From what side (WAN or LAN) do you try? And at what point in the process exactly? When you physically connect to the switch or when you apply the network configuration?
