Hey guys,

i am trying to finish my DNS/DHCPv6 server setup but it seems to be not as easy as i thought.

So i am getting a /56 IPv6 prefix from my ISP via DHCPv6. I use "Track Interface" to get the prefix to my LAN subnet and my devices do get a IPv6 connection. My problem is, as soon as i have to restart my hardware and get a new prefix the whole setup doesnt work anymore because the prefix changed.

I tried usind ULAs created as Virtual IPs but that didnt seem to work as expected.

Is there a way around using a global address (2003:.....) as my DNS server?

I am using 22.1.9_1. And here are some screenshots of my config:

Can somebody please point me in the right direction? It would be much appreciated!

did you get a PD and ND

try this, as this was my setup for my isp when using dhcpv6 on tracking wan
dhcpv6 client configuration
untick request only an ipv6 prefix
untick send ipv6 prefix hint

services router advertisements lan
change router advertisements to 'assisted'
untick use the dns settings of dhcpv6 server

I also have all my dns entries under system>settings>general

Depending on the ISP you may just be able to keep your ipv6 PD indefinitely until your WAN-side MAC changes. You can go to Interfaces/Settings and check the option to prevent DHCPv6 release. For me, this has allowed me to keep the same prefix for over 6 months.

Hi,

your WAN configuration pictures seem to be good - if you are using a PPPoE (DSL) connection.

For debugging, please try:

- Disable DHCPv6 on LAN side.
- Change RA to Unmanaged.

Your client should have IPv6 internet and you keep your setup simple. DHCPv6 ist not always needed (mostly it is not.)

Bye
Robert.

I don't know who your ISP is but currently Charter/Spectrum is having IPV6 problems with customer own modems.
