Hi, Im new to OPNsense
I used m0n0wall many yearrs for a guest net.
Now i tried to switch to OPNsense.
I decide to install it on HYPER-V 2008-R2.
First I installed 15.7.18. After reboot no network adapters are working. I had to enable each adapter by running ifconfig de... down ifconfig de... up.
A Firmwareupgrade to 16.1.8 run into a non working machine. After reboot it hungs into boot sequense.
So finaly I tried to install it in a fresh version.
during installation it does not find any disks. (Installer could not find any disks) 15.7.18 did.
Very strange.
Any idea hpw to fix?
Regards
Detlef

I run OPNsense on Hyper-V 2012 R2, but 2008 R2 should run fine too.
To start with, what are the specs you gave the VM?
Most importantly, in this case, use the synthetic network adapter.
And make sure you use at least 1GB memory. Do not use Dynamic Memory as FreeBSD doesn't support it yet.
Also, don't use 15.7.18. It's old, and the 16.8 image will have many needed Hyper-V improvements.
Especially for the virtual hard disk.

thank you for reply,
ok I create a new machine with the following specs:
RAM 1024 MB static
CPU 1
HDD 60 GB on IDE
NET 1 (LAN) synthetic
NET 2 (WAN) synthetic
NET 3 (GUEST synthetic
Image: OPNsense-16.1.8-OpenSSL-cdrom-amd64.iso
After staring up and run installer, the following message comes up:
The installer could not find any disks suitable for installation (IDE or SCSI) attached
to this comupter....

Hyper-V support on FreeBSD fiddled with the disk visibility during 10.1 -> 10.2.
Go to your Hyper-V disk settings, select a different disk type (I don't know which as I don't have a Hyper-V deployment)
Tom, what are you currently using?

OK I go back to 15.7.18 as boot image.
After booting it found the same disk, that 16.1 did not found.

Unless you find the hypervisor setting to see Hyper-V disks on 16.1 install they will disappear on a 15.7 upgrade again, leaving you with the same end result. :/

No idea what might cause this.
Would have to see it for myself.
Is there a possibility we could do a TeamViewer session sometime?

Since I work during the days myself it would have to be a evening or in the weekend.
Or monday before 3pm.
Is this a home or work setup you have?
Not that it matters, just wondering.

Thank you weust for your time.
I download the 10.2 freebsd, which doesn't install neither.
So it must be a bug into FreeBSD/HYPER-V 2008 R2
But after searching the internet for half the day, I found a sollution here:
https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=109952.0
follow the steps from Moohouse let me install the system in HYPER-V 2008 R2
Tanks all

You're welcome.
No clue what that option actually does, or why it's needed now.
