Nginx reversed proxy -> email imap?

nope it doesn't work. But since it is only port 25 that is NAT port forwarded to the mailserver (no tls) I think the proxy won't be of any use?

but it looked like a normal connection, completed due to incorrect commands or due to timeout:

sorry, didn't quite understand the question. but yes, if balancing or TLS-offloading is not needed, then there is no particular sense imho
(as i said, for incoming mail to protect the internal MTA, I would prefer to use postfix as a relay. for client smtp connections I use separate ports (with TLS required etc))
