quad port nic not seen

Hi,
I'm trying to install opnsense on a hp t610 plus. If installed an 4P, 1Gb/s, NIC, PCI-e, LP, Intel Pro/1000 VT, Dell P/N in it. Unfortunately the nic is not recognized with autodetection while configuring the system.
Does anybody now what i'm doing wrong and have a suggestion for me ?
Do i need to change some bios settings ?
Thank you in advance.
Vincent

Hi Vincent, see if you can find the controller chipset that the card is using and compare it with the HCL:
https://www.freebsd.org/releases/12.1R/hardware/
There's a bunch of Intel PRO gigabit cards on there, but not the VT. This may explain your findings.

Hi Bart,
Thanks you for pointing me in the right direction.
My nic uses the intel 82575GB chipset. The 82575 is supported but not the 82575GB.
So i will need to buy other ones.
Thank you for your help.
Much appreciated.

Hi,
I just had a chat with an intel support represenrtative.
According to him the chipset controllers 82575GB and 82575 are the same.
So according to the HCL my nic should work (driver em).
"The em(4) driver supports .......Intel Gigabit VT Quad Port Server Adapter (82575)"
Does anybody know what needs to be done to get this nic working ?
I want to mention that the green led on the card does flicker when a cable is connected.
Thank you for your time.

Ask the intel rep for the Freebsd driver that works with it.

I want to mention that the green led on the card does flicker when a cable is connected.
Unfortunately that just means that there is (stand-by) power available to the NIC and that packets are on the wire - usually broadcasts.

Any clues in dmesg?
If the device is not recognised it might have a Dell BIOS. em should find it though.
One thing you could do is see if a vanilla freebsd installation gets to see it.

Thank you all for your respoinses.
I could return the nic's and replaced them with Dell/Intel i350 nic's. These are seen without any issue.
Thank you all.
Since this is all new to me i'm not on the next face (configuring the firewall)
