My new Hardware: Hunsn RM02 Firewall Appliance

Hi.
After struggling for weeks - but not managing - to get my loved old APU2 to route a
real
1GBps wire speed, I was looking for something more powerful - and found something.
Here is my (German) small Review of a "Hunsn RM02 Firewall" I ordered from China:
https://www.onderka.com/computer-und-netzwerk/hunsn-rm02-firewall-appliance
With subpages > images, > hardware and > serial port
If you have any hardware related questions or need an English translation you're welcome, of course.

looks nice - do you have a powermeter? power consumption would be nice to know...

Yes, I do have one.
Will do some measurements as soon as I can disconnect my VPNs and my wife has finished her university stuff. We're working remote from home for the last 2 years or so - at least that's how it feels...

Here you go - an average of 5 measurements:
Off: 1,8 Watts
Boot: About 15,4 Watts
Idle, about one minute after the "I'm up"-beep: 13,6 Watts
Routing (1 GBit/s WAN-LAN): 18,4 Watts
I guess a few Watts could be saved by replacing the original Chinese power brick with a
good
better PSU.
Somewhen, maybe

I'm migrating to the "Core i5 4200U" version, also named "HUNSN RM02".
First post and first time OPNsense user (was running "vuurmuur"), but I'll mention what I have found so far:
- build looks solid. My unit also included the 2 rubber plugs to close the holes for wi-fi anetnna's.
- No issues so far installing the OPNsense 21.1.4 (USB) image.
- No BIOS setting for the advertised boot-on-power-restore, so I opened it up. The PWRON jumper towards the right side indeed works. If the unit was off during power-loss, it still turns on at power-restore.
- I read a complaint that the DC plug had no way to lock it in place. I can report that it is a very solid plug and takes quite a bit of effort to pull out. It won't fall out even when mounted vertically.
- (amazon.nl lists the price as: including BTW (VAT) but seller refuses to list tax on invoice...)
- Next week I have a kWh meter that is supposed to be accurate for small loads. I plan to compare this to the DC load, to see the efficiency of the included power supply, and see how the "Core i5" compares to the i3.
- The main thing I would like to mention now is that the network ports are numbered igb0..igb5 in the OS and labeled LAN1..LAN6 on the enclose, but as far as I can see now, the order is
REVERSED
!, so igb0 is the right-most port, LAN6. (I expect this is the same for the "core i3" version?)

The reversed ethernet ports could be the result of the BIOS scanning devices in the wrong order.
Mine are in the "right" order: left most LAN1 = igb0 (blue), ..., right most LAN6 = igb5 (yellow)
I don't have a monitor plugged in at the moment, you could try to check your BIOS-settings, maybe you can find some settings related to PCI bus scanning and device order.

Thank you!, that's a very good thing to check. Unfortunately I could find not find a bios setting that looked applicable. It's not a big issue, I plan to stick on my own labels anyway, I just spend way to much time to figure out that I needed to connect to "LAN5" to access the web-interface after my first install
The layout of my (i5) board is very similar but not identical, for example the buzzer is moved. It does have the same "LAN1" printed on the board, as in your photo's.
---
In the Bios settings, under "chipset" -> "PCH-IO" -> "PCI Express" -> there is "PCIE Port assignment to LAN [Disabled]" but that setting is black instead of blue and can't be changed.
Under "advanced" there is an option to blink the LED of a network port, and they are numbered "Bus:Device:Function 01:00:00", also can't be changed, and the MAC address is listed there too.
I think the led-blinking only works if a network is connected to that port.
(Preferably use the "delete" key to enter the bios, since F2 is used inside the bios to (after confirmation) reset to previous values.)

Please send me a PM or mail, I'll add an image of your board to my site.
Unfortunately I didn't take any notes of my BIOS settings as everyting was set up well and worked out of the box.

Hi,
I also bought this machine. Only replaced the 8GB RAM with a 16GB RAM stick.
At the moment I'm playing with it with Proxmox installed, one WAN port, 3 LAN port used by a pfSense VM, and 3 LAN port used by an OPNsense VM. Working like a charm, with plenty resources to spare.
Does anyone have any kind of user manual for the board? I would like to use a SIM CARD on this, but don't know if that needs extra hardware.

Good post, how come you went with the 1g lan port version instead of the 2.5gig lan port version ?
