Upgrading NIC
« on: February 18, 2019, 12:18:45 am »
What is the process for upgrading hardware on an existing OPNsense server? My current setup is using the on-board NIC, and a second PCIe NIC. The goal is to replace the current single port NIC with a new dual port PCIe NIC.

What is the process for updating OPNsense after the upgrade? Or, if a fresh install is recommended, will an export/import of the config work?

To be clear, I know how to upgrade the hardware, just not sure about the process to get OPNsense to see the new hardware.

In the WebGUI, after starting the machine with the new NIC, you can rename it and then enable it.
If you have rules using a specific name, make sure to use the same name again.
Everything should work just fine after that.

If the LAN interface is on the PCIe card, that will be changed, you must assign the new LAN port via local console.(monitor and keyboard).
