26.7 installation hard-stuck with 26.10 package

you mean installing 26.7 business edition from ISO has as a logical outcome that 26.10 community is selected as a non-changeable default and that's expected behavior?
the license key is configured and 'business' is selected as a well as a commercial mirror, it proves impossible to change to 26.7 from 26.10 no matter what, and that's expected behavior too?

You need to start with 26.1 and switch to 26.4 if you want to run the current business edition.

I came from 26.4 which failed to upgrade the VM so i started with a new VM and did a fresh install from 26.7

There is no 26.7 BE, only 26.4 with 26.10 expected soon.

And since you cannot downgrade, you cannot get from 26.7 to 26.4 ...

Then you have to run 26.7 until 26.10 is released and run community edition for the couple of days inbetween.

Or install 26.1 as I already told you. Which can be switched to 26.4.

Or download 26.4 installation media directly which can be done using your subscription key in the URL. But I don't remember how exactly from the top of my head.

To install community from a public download, then switch to business from the UI, the community edition MUST be a LOWER version than the business edition intended.

26.4.2p3 is the latest business version. Switching to community 26.7.x is possible, but then you'd have gone through 26.1.x because 26.4 does not allow upgrading to 26.7. It waits for 26.10 which is due in two and a half weeks.

well, i completely missed that since 26.4 BE kept suggesting upgrading to 26.7 BE so I blindly downloaded 26.7 assuming that would be the BE iso
