Cannot Update CrowdSec on OPNsense – Package Not Found / Stuck on Old Version

Hi everyone,

I'm currently using OPNsense (version X.X.X) and I've installed CrowdSec via the default pkg system.

However, I've run into an issue: the installed version is stuck at v1.6.9, and I get a warning that a newer release (v1.6.11) is available. When I try to update using:

- pkg update
- pkg upgrade crowdsec

or attempt a fresh install using:

- pkg install crowdsec

I receive the following error:

pkg: No packages available to install matching 'crowdsec' have been found in the repositories

I also tried checking the SunnyValley repository and FreeBSD base packages, but it seems CrowdSec is either missing or not updated in the available repos.
🔍 What I'd like to know:

Is there a recommended way to update CrowdSec on OPNsense without breaking core dependencies?

Is CrowdSec still officially maintained or supported within the OPNsense ecosystem?

Can I install CrowdSec manually (e.g. from source) without causing issues with system integrity or upgrades?

Are there plugin updates or roadmap plans to support newer versions of CrowdSec via the GUI or CLI?

This is especially important for us since we'd like to deploy scenarios like crowdsecurity/http-auth-bruteforce, which require a newer CrowdSec engine.

Any guidance would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Crowdsec is officially maintained by crowdsec themselves and they pushed an opnsense specific update less than a week ago.

Ignore the warning in the dashboard...

Don't do ... things that will break things...

You don't need 1.6.10 (released 2 weeks ago) or 1.6.11 (released 4 days ago) to run any scenario, especially one that hasn't been updated for 6 months when 1.6.9 is 1 month old.

If somehow I am wrong and you can't deploy scenarios, contact crowdsec on github.
