Boot hang on Netgate SG-2440 (nano)

Hi there, new to OPNsense and coming from a longtime pfSense background. Trying to install latest version (17.1) on my Netgate SG-2440 (Intel Atom based).

Booting from USB, OPNsense gets to the initial splash screen (with options), but no matter what options I use (safe mode on/off, ACPI on/off, etc) it hangs on booting at the ng_tcpmss.ko file.

I tried using the Serial image instead of Nano, and it also hung, this time at /boot/defaults/loader.conf

Screenshots attached.

Any help appreciated!

Hi vocatus,

There are old instructions on to how to deal with the serial device correctly:

https://www.netgate.com/docs/rcc-ve-2440/opnsense.html

I don't know which of those are still necessary (likely only a few of the boot.loader.conf changes), but judging from your screenshots the system boots yet doesn't enable the serial correctly so you don't see it anymore.

Cheers,
Franco

Thanks Franco, I'll give it a shot today.

Hi Franco,

Unfortunately I'm still having issues. When using the Nano 17.1 image and the commands you provided, I can successfully boot the system to a Live environment. However there's no option to install the image so I'm stuck with Live CD environment only.

When using the Serial 17.1 image, it never even gets to the initial splash screen, it just crashes at "loading /boot/defaults/loader.conf"

Is there a way to perform an installation from the Nano live environment?

The nano does not advertise the installer, but the root console can still run it... :)

# /usr/local/etc/rc.installer

Cheers,
Franco
