Hi everyone,

I'm looking for guidance on how to customize the pre-login message (displayed before the login prompt) and the post-login message (displayed after a successful login) for all connection types in OPNsense, including console, SSH

Specifically, I'd like to:

  • Change the message displayed before users log in (e.g., the banner or welcome message).
  • Change or add a custom message displayed after users successfully log in (e.g., system information or notices).

I'd appreciate any specific steps, files to edit, or tips for ensuring the changes are applied.
Thanks in advance for your help!

The default banner of OPNsense, e.g "Hello this is OPNsense X.yz" is basically motd "Message of the day"

This is stored in /var/run/motd but rebuilt (at boot times and when the sysadmin so chooses) from /etc/motd.template.

have a look at the man
https://man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=motd&sektion=5&manpath=freebsd-release-ports

Regards,
S.
Networking is love. You may hate it, but in the end, you always come back to it.
