I dont understand this freebsd vs linux craze lately. People dont seem to understand how much work is required to do something like that. Not to mention security implications that linux kernel introduces. There is a reason why both opnsense and pfsense are running freebsd under the hood. If you want linux based firewall, go use openwrt, untangle, vyos... or whatever. Im not ready to sacrifice security just to get better hardware support.

I absolutely understand how much work, that would require.
It was just a thought on Franco's remarks regarding Netgates involvement in FreeBSD-development.

OPNsense (and pfSense) wouldn't exist in their current form if they were running Linux. Going to Linux now means removing half the features and replacing the other half with different software. There is some chatter about hybrid approaches but basically you lose most of what the kernel can do and you need to switch working solutions to other similar software or kernel features that are impossible to emulate.

Bottom line is you start more or less from scratch in code and user base, too.
