Suitable 2.5GbE router for home Opnsense network

Hello all,

I only started using Opnsense in Oct 2023, and bought an unbranded router off ebay that has not caused me any real issue, other than it having a Realtek network (1GbE). The rest is pretty minimal; 8gb ram, Core i3-5010u CPU, 64gb SSD.

My reason for my question today is, I'm upgrading my home Internet provider, allowing my WAN speed to increase from 200Mbps to 1.6Gbps, and I need to upgrade my Opnsense router to something that will handle the extra bandwidth speed.

I have looked online and a lot of people have recommended an N100, however with so many varients available and me wanting to keep cost to a minimum, I wanted to ask if this one on Amazon would do the trick (the 16GB ram, 128GB SSD variant);

Yes that N100 16G RAM should be enough for 2.5G InterVLan routing.

All these mini "servers/pcs" are just rebrand of CWWK MOBOs. I would advise preferably to get a CWWK as they usually do the best chassis for cooling from these kind of vendors.

Still keep in mind these mini devices may come with one back-draw and that's the quality, of chassis, cooling etc. Doing a DIY always is a roulette.

If you want to pick more precisse which variant of "brand" or "chassis" to get to have better experience from it check serverthehome, people there are crazily testing it.
