I bought a AliExpress mini/PC/Firewall that was advertised to support OPNsense.  It has  4x LAN 2.5G i226V cards.  But when I try to install OPNsense 24.1 I get an error that says: default interface not found -- Running interface assignment option.
Valid interfaces are:
No interfaces found!
pfSense cannot continue without at least one Network Interface Card."

I see on the forums people are having luck using i226v NIC's but I do see some posts that say the yare a problem.

Sorry, I'm new to OPNsense so I realize this might be a well known issue or that I'm missing something basic here.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!  Thx

Whatever you "installed" there, it is not OpnSense...

Check if you rellay installed properly and did not only boot a live system. Maybe pfSense was preinstalled on the machine? On the other hand, strange that is does not detect the NICs then...

You realize that the OpnSense ISO is a live disc that has to be used to install, but first you have to make sure that it is the ISO (or USB) that is being booted?

Afterwards, you have to reboot. The messages you quote indicate that whatever is running now is pfSense, not OpnSense, hence I believe that pfSense was preinstalled and you failed to install OpnSense correctly.

Verify carefully if you booted the correct OpnSense installer image and installed from there...

yes, I realize that.  But you are correct.  I thought it was bootign from my USB but instead it was booting from the internal drive.  the Aliexpress vendor must have previously sold the unit and took it back on a return then sold it to me with pfsense already installed.

good catch
