Hardware Load Balancing Tutorial
«

Hello Guys,
I'm looking for a tutorial or instructions to setup hardware load balancing. Can't seem to find it on the OPNSense wiki or forum.
Any ideas where I can go for more info?
Best regards,
Geert

Hi Geert,
What is "hardware" load balancing in your use case? Need to sync terminology.
Thanks,
Franco

Hi Franco,
Well there is a service Load Balancer which, if I understand correctly, will distribute the load between different OPNSense servers.
So not just WAN load balancing but load balacing depending on CPU and memory usage.
If I'm not perfectly clear let me know and I'll try to explain it again.
Best regards,
Geert

Hi Geert,
No, the load balancer service is for providing a load balancer to other server's services like Web Servers that you have in your network/DMZ
There is no easy way of "even" distribution. The balancing for Multi-WAN uses round robin, it is not aware of bandwidth constraints, it only fairly distributes on a per-connection basis.
You need a full-blown commercial solution for bandwith-even distribution, likely appliance-based.
Cheers,
Franco
