Hi all,
I'm getting a um790 AMD Ryzen PC and I'm an absolute beginner.
So can anyone explain to me the basics of installing and setting up the router/firewall of opensense.
I am sharing the modem/router with the owner who lives upstairs and uses it also for his business.
How could I do that without affecting his system ? Do I need any other hardware ?

Docs here https://docs.opnsense.org/
You need ideally at least two network ports. One is your upstreadn WAN and the other is downstream LAN. Machines on LAN become clients, so you should dedicate the machine to be a firewall only i.e. not a desktop as well.
You'll need to have your WAN port connecting to the owner, so ideally a cable from their router to yours, and likely unless they delegate you to replace it, you'll be doing double NAT which will complicate the setup but is possible to do.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply
I already have Lan internet connection from his router/modem & separate WiFi connection with my own password.
Would it be possible to set up my own router/ firewall from that using some kind of hardware from opnsense with a switch ? Sorry, I not so clued upwith computer tech. but I would like my new syst
em to be secure. I'm an absolute beginner !

Thanks for your help.

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing  ???

You need to do at least some light studying to be secure - no software or hardware will do it for you if you run the network.
