The ping process runs in a capability mode sandbox on all affected
versions of FreeBSD and is thus very constrainted in how it can interact
with the rest of the system at the point where the bug can occur.

I'm not entirely sure we will make the cut for 22.7.9 tomorrow. You can install install the new base system (and or kernel) anyway:

# opnsense-update -b -k -r 22.7.9

-b for base, -k for kernel

Update to 22.7.9 done on some boxes, all playing nice so far. :-)
