OpenVPN connection with an IPAD using an Opnsense certificate

I am trying to set up an OpenVPN connection with my iPad using the cert exported from opnsence.

On the iPad I tried an app called OpenVPN Connect

but when I tried to import the certificate exported from opnsense I got this error in the OpenVPN Connect app

"Failed to Import Profile
Failed to parse profile: crypto)alg: SHA3-256 not found"

For the opnsense certificate, I tried both SHA256 and SHA512 - but got the same message above in both cases.

In relation to that, I found this post:
https://forums.openvpn.net/viewtopic.php?t=32861

which looks like the Open Connect app will not work with a certificate exported from opnsense.

I looked thru a bunch of other vpn products on the iStore but couldn't find any to work.

Does anyone know of an iPad app that will work with a certificate exported out of opnsense?

Of note, earlier I ran into the same problem with my Android phone, but found an app called "OpenVPN for Android" that accepts the certificate created out of opnsense.

If I remember correctly iOS supports OpenVPN through its own VPN configuration. Have a look in settings. You may need to import the config (with embedded certificates and key) from an email or through iTunes. It's picky about file storage.

Thank Bart,

I looked thru the iPad settings, and yes there is a native setting for VPN - I'll see if I can get it set up.

@bartjsmit

thanks for the lead - I am having troubles with the setup, and posted a separate question here:
