Environment Variables

Is there are 'correct' way to set environment variables in OPNSense which persist across upgrades? At the moment I am adding them to the [environment] section of /usr/local/opnsense/service/conf/configd.conf but this gets wiped out with every upgrade.
If not, once this .conf file is edited is there a way to process/apply settings added without a reboot?

Hi,
We never had to adjust the configd behaviour on the user side before. What kind of vars are you looking for?
Cheers,

Proxy variables. I run 7 OPNSense firewalls in an environment which is 99% isolated, the only internet access out is via an unauthenticated HTTP proxy.
Very similar situation to this person:
