Manually Configure Initial WAN and LAN Settings

Hello everyone! I'll cut to the chase. I am looking for a tutorial that explains everything that happens in the initial configuration of the WAN and LAN. My goal is to better understand the process and be able to completely reconfigure my router without having to reset and go back through the initial config and/or better troubleshoot issues that keep me from connecting through several routers.
I want to learn OPNsense well enough to deploy in a production environment with a network consisting of several OPNsense routers. I bought the book to learn from, but as I am setting up the virtual environment which consists of 4 routers + 1 that I added to allow internet connectivity (using XCP-NG), I am having issues with the second client being able to get beyond the first router it is attached to. This could be a simple error on my part, and I believe resetting the router would fix the issue, but I would rather be able to identify the issue and fix it without going that far as that is not recommended in a production environment. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
