Booting without VGA Console

Hey guys,

I have a weird situation where after reinstalling OPNsense to boot via UEFI I can no longer reboot the box without a VGA monitor attached to the box. Previously with the legacy boot method it worked fine.

I did find this post that seems that someone else had previously encountered this issue: https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=3972.0

However, I wasn't able to find the NULLCONSOLE option under administration > console that was said to be added. SSHing into the box itself and manually editing the file with vi to manually change the variable also did not seem to make any difference.

If anyone has ran into this issue before, and knows what the solution is I'd really appreciate it. As of now any loss of power or updates that require a reboot basically requires me to lug out a monitor to get everything up and running again.

Hi there, did you just scan trough the page you linked to or read it?
People on that page clearly state your method won't work!
You simply need a that monitor (or dummy) attached
Find a DIY project, you would only need a plug and a few resistors or buy one some marketplace and you may/probably have success.

Yes, that is specifically why I went to look for the NULLCONSOLE flag that the devs mentioned they were patching into OPNsense in 2016. The thread seemed to unanimously agree this was a bug with the then version of BSD, and, given it was first reported 4 years ago, it seemed reasonable to expect that there might be another alternative to buying a dummy cable connector.

I'll reference the BSD documentation to look for a solution to this.
