ixv virtual function interfaces stopped working

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with Intel X540 SR-IOV virtual functions ("ixv") on OPNsense 26.7 / FreeBSD 15.1 running under VMware ESXi 8.

The VF appears to receive and transmit traffic, according to ESXi statistics, but VLAN communication isn't working. I've also tested creating a VLAN interface ("ixv2.20") directly in OPNsense.

I suspect outgoing traffic isn't being VLAN-tagged correctly, although I haven't confirmed this with a packet capture. Switching back to VMXNET3 works.

Has anyone encountered this with "ixv" since the FreeBSD 15 upgrade? Could this be related to the recent Intel driver changes, or is there a known workaround?

Please help, my previous post didn't get any response.

my take and forgive me to be brutally honest:
i read your first and although it is very long and probably thanks to AI it contains a lot of info - the main problem is not that its long but rather that you construct loss of basic functionality but dont prove it. Instead, you want your complex serup troubleshooted.

This is a forum. Its aim is to give help to people so they can act themselves. Its not a system integrator for free.

Install OPNsense from scratch in a test environment and test the basic functionality, then increase complexity.

Yes thanks for your honesty and I totally get it. I've been running opnsense for years in my home lab so this is just a hobby thing.

Everything worked before this upgrade and clearly there have been a TON of regressions with this freebsd version especially on Intel drivers so I can't understand why this wouldn't be looked at considering others have reported VLAN and driver based issues.

My intent with the AI post was simply to show that I've spent days debugging systematically and show the work without wasting people's time.

I'm a bit dumb founded because I've had an issue before years ago with another freebsd release and I was actively helped.
