ACME Client only seems to allow one certificate

I have a setup that uses Let'sEncrypt for my certificates.  Some time ago (probably a year ago at least) things broke only allowing me to generate a wildcard certificate successfully.  I rejuggled, but would like to return to having certificates for each machine where possible.

I just tried creating one, but this failed verifying the certificate.  Looking at the DNS an appropriate TXT was created in the DNS, but the cert was not verified.  Does anyone have any idea why this happens.
