***GOT REQUEST TO UPGRADE***
Currently running OPNsense 25.1.12 (amd64) at Thu Jul 24 01:34:15 EEST 2025
Strict TLS 1.3 and CRL checking is enabled.
Fetching packages-25.7-amd64.tar: ...

30 minutes later, the dots keep increasing, but very obviously nothing is getting downloaded or computed after the first two minutes. I have restarted the vm 3-4 times and it gets stuck each time. After the first minute or two, getting to non-firmware pages becomes impossible.

I have succesfully updated other devices.

Any ideas?

Are the "other devices" running as bare metal? What are the VMs running on? Did you follow all advice pertaining do VM setups in the tutorial section?

Are these instances that are purely for tests or do they actually connect to the internet? If not, did you configure a gateway to be able to route traffic to the internet? Being able to use the web UI does not mean everything else works...
Intel N100, 4* I226-V, 2* 82559, 16 GByte, 500 GByte NVME, ZTE F6005

1100 down / 800 up, Bufferbloat A+

The other devices are bare metal, mostly Deciso appliances.

The VMs are running on VirtualBox inside a competent  windows host. They are purely for tests but have been properly setup and updated for the past two years. Major releases and most minor ones.

My current working theory is that when ram is a bit constrained everything comes to a halt and then something fails.
