Greetings,

with the release of Community version 25.1 as Production I see the 24.7 is still indicated as Production too.

Is it a typo or ......

Thanks in advance

The 24.7 reached its EoL, no new updates or patches will be provided. If you click on update in your OPNsense, it will popup a notification stating this.

S.
Networking is love. You may hate it, but in the end, you always come back to it.

i believe the original poster is talking about the forum area:  24.7, 24.10 Production Series
its still listed as production.  since 25.1 is out

Greetings,

I meant exactly what DEC670airp414user said.

If 24.7 is EOL why is still marked as production on the forum?

Best Wishes

Because there is a transition period, not a cliff edge type of release.
When the new release is announced as is 25.1 just a few days ago, a lot if not most people will still be on the "current" 24.7 which will become "previous".
It'll all be renamed soon enough.

business edition will still be 24.10(prod) for at least 3 more months for that new release... will be interesting on if /how its reworded

Well the current naming in the forum for the series is a relatively new phenomenom, see https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=44558.msg222548#msg222548 which if I am not mistaken is what prompted it to change from a single name to a combined one.
That one was about numbering but seems relevant to the question IMO.

Looks like we are growing with the things that people are asking for. The wording is now rather difficult. I think we have to keep the current wording now until 25.4 is out indeed.

@Franco

I apologize for my dumbness but I've not the thing clear enough.

Let me rephrase the question:

is 25.1 stable enough to be used in a production environment?
is 24.7 secure enough to be used in a production environment till the shipping of 25.4?

Apart from the wording, it'd seem that a EOL (or not?) version can still be used safely.

Thanks in advance

> is 25.1 stable enough to be used in a production environment?

The general answer is: yes. The specific answer is: most likely. We are tracking a few bugs but nothing prevalent or pressing. The stable branch for 25.1 currently contains 7 commits, only one of them has operational impact for monit in one reported case so far -- https://github.com/opnsense/core/commit/dd16ac0b2b5

> is 24.7 secure enough to be used in a production environment till the shipping of 25.4?

This question is strange. If you asked 24.10 till the shipping of 25.4 I'd say yes because that's what it is designed for... 24.10.2 comes out today and even has the FreeBSD security advisories that are missing from 25.1 due to timing issues in the release build sequence.

24.7 will not receive more fixes, but apart from recent FreeBSD SAs and an issue with ClamAV (as of this writing) it is as good as 25.1 from a security perspective.

Thanks for the quick answer, Franco.

We do not use the Business Edition, that's why I wrote 24.7 and not 24.10.

In the forum, here the why of my question, they are not differentiated while in reality, by your answer, they are.

Anyway now the situation is clear, thank you very much.

Yes, it's not ideal in the forum now, but neither was it before when people asked about business editions not being mentioned here.

Zabbix for example goes all in here and publishes this:

https://www.zabbix.com/life_cycle_and_release_policy

Maybe we should have something similar in the future.
