Hello everyone,

I would like to set up a traffic rule for my network with a guaranteed and a maximum throughput.
I have 650 Mbps of upload bandwidth and I would like to have :
- 500 Mbps guaranteed for video service
- 650 Mbps maximum for video service
Do you have a solution because I have the impression that this is not possible as a configuration on OPNsense.
Thanks to all !

No you cant guarantee,  only cut of the rest or weight traffic, butcnot guarantee

QoS works exactly the opposite way than the way you worded your post.  Like in life, bandwidth is no different, there are no guarantees.  :)  650Mbp upload is crazy good (almost an unreal amount).  You might pay for 650, your service provider doesn't always allow for the maximum totals often.

The point is, shaper mechanisms work in the opposite way.  Say you have 100Mbps upload capacity.  And you want to reserve 90Mbps for video service.  That means you have to 'limit' all other traffic to 10Mbps. So you give one queue for video of 90Mbps and other queue of 10Mbps for all other traffic.  In the times of congestion, that be ~80 to 90% of 100. All other traffic would start to buffer more (or start drop more often)  then the video traffic.  Your not guaranteeing bandwidth to video, you are trying to limit all other traffic.

That is interesting, because in "my" mind

Lets say I have 40/5 DSL [Ok, I do] and I wanna guarantee that my PS5 or XBS-X always has enough bandwidth to um not lag? I.E 50-80 ms Ping, so I wanna make sure that no matter what happens elsewhere that my consoles are always guaranteed their minimum let's say 10/2 Mb for at least smooth playing. Is this not what qos does?
