Hi All,

Today OPNsense started to block Youtube App on iPhone and iPads, you get the message "The following content is not available on this app".
Turned off:
- Proofpoint Intrusion detection
- Zenarmor "Packet Engine"
- Unbound DNS and the Blocklists

This started this morning.

If I use Youtube App without OPNsense then it works great.
Youtube on Computer behind firewall work all the time.

Others with similar issues?

Thanks,
Ase

No problems here. Youtube on iphone and ipad are working.
Using Bind - Adguard blocklists and zenarmor still running.

tried a reboot of your opnsense device, to see if this solves this problem somehow?

Thanks for your reply RamSense!

Tried a reboot of the OPNsense but with no change in behaviour.
Also tried Youtube App on Android now, that works fine.

In what places or logfiles should I look for info if it is a active "block"?

Can it be that you have enabled SafeSearch in unbound? Try disabling.

QuoteEnable SafeSearch - Force the usage of SafeSearch on Google, DuckDuckGo, Bing, Qwant, PixaBay and YouTube.

In Services: "Unbound DNS: Blocklist" the "Force SafeSearch" is disabled.

Is there other places to activate SafeSearch?

I cannot see anything changed in the setup from yesterday to today,

Have you tried rebooting the iphone? maybe it cached your previous blocklist setting(?)

I took my Work iPad, started it and connected it to my Home Wi-Fi, Installed Youtube and get the same result there as well.
On both my sons iPhone or this iPad if I turn off Wi-Fi it starts working.
Also if I make my own Android phone as Hotspot the iPhone and iPad works.

Humm... try (forced) whitelisting youtube domain in unbound? than I'm out of options :-)

strange behaviour what looks to me it has to do with the safesearch.

I did some search on the forum, and found 2 others with similar problems in the past:

Does it work using a VPN?

I had something similar in the past, and you wouldn't believe the fix.....but it worked.

I changed the MAC address on my router to get a new IP (Cable modems quite sticky IP wise), and lo and behold.....it worked.

Almost like YouTube took an objection to the IP I had.

This Worked, THANKS!

Rebooted the 5G router to get a new WAN IP.
Though about it, but because Android and Computers worked from behind the same firewall/IP, so I concluded that it could not be an ISP or Youtube block.

Thanks for your help to solve this!

Ase

Still cannot understand the logic about it!
Anyone here wiser that can explain this behavior?

we have a similar issues at work.

not with YouTube but our work vpn connection and the url to download the vpn.

I endlessly hear all our other devices are working fine... but once they finally unplug the modem briefly and turn it back on they can work again.

it is something on the ISP's end.       stuck states I am unsure, but the reboot always fixes the issue for our corporate vpn
