24.1 PPPOE interface problems not forwarding LAN traffic

I'm having problems with 24.1 not doing outbound NAT properly. The firewall brings up the interfaces but if I use Automatic Outbound NAT, Opnsense will randomly stop forwarding during changes. Hybrid or Manual works fine if I build my own outbound NAT settings - which is a bit broken as the reason for using Opnsense is to take that ball-ache away.

If I force a state reset this will usually start things working again. I have 2 fibre links that run over a PPPoE link - both links will come up but I think opnsense is being too keen to bring up the routing before the pppoe session has been established.

I've given up trying to use the gateway groups as that just puts the whole thing it a vegetative state as far as routing traffic is concerned - it works and then doesn't and even static NAT rules can't get traffic to NAT from  LAN to WAN1 or WAN2 or WANGW

I suspect the automatic rules could be the root cause but it's almost impossible to find out why 20 rules have been applied to a near vanilla install.

At least I have a handle on how to get it back to life once it's gone into a non-routing state but all working fine with <23.x
