Hello,

I am trying to build an opensense router/firewall for my network.  Most importantly, I am trying to take advantage of 5gbps fiber offer from my ISP.  I wanted to build an opnsense compatible box that was energy efficient and also able to handle 10gbe via sfp+.  I see that minisforum is now shipping a BD790i:

Specs:

  • Mini-ITX Form Factor(170x170x1.6mm)
    Ryzen 9 7945HX 16C/32T 2.5GHz (5.4 GHz Boost, 16MB L2, 64MB L3 Cache)
    Radeon 610M integrated Graphics
    DDR5 Dual channel (SODIMM Slots×2, up to 5200 MT/s)
    2x M.2 2280 PCIe 5.0 SSD Slots
    1x M.2 2230 Key E Slot for NIC
    1x PCIe 5.0 X16 Slot for GPU
Ports:

  • 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (Alt DisplayPort 1.4)
    2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 TYpe-A
    2x USB 2.0 TYpe-A
    1x HDMI 2.0
    1x DisplayPort 1.4
    1x RJ-45 2.5G Ethernet
    1x Line Out
FAN/Audio/USB headers

  • 1x 4-pin CPU Fan header
    2x 4-pin System Fan header
    1x 4-pin SSD Fan header
    1x Front Panel Audio Header
    1x System Panel Headers
    1x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Header

I am looking at using the single free PCIe 5.0 x16 Expansion Slot, by purchasing an Intel x710-da2, with the 10g sfp+ outward to a USW-Enterprise-8-PoE (120W), as I only have one specific work box that will have a 10gbe NIC, all other clients will be using 1gbps NICs, and majority are going to connect via UniFi APs.

Those with experience, is it possible to run OpnSense on this Minisforum BD790i with an Intel x7910-da2? Or is there another Intel 10gbe+ NIC I should be looking into?
