Thought i would share part 1 of my over powerfull Xeon-D OPNsense firewall . Yes its about 200x over powered but thats the way i always build my units, PLUS i had the motherboard kicking around

Didn't notice till now about the audio being left channel only, something happened to my external recorder

Interested to see how the performance throughput is with 10Gbps.

it should be VERy good !  When i was bench testing it, I couldn't get the cpu to go over 4% lol.  Its way to power full BUT thats what i like..

Xeon D rocks. I have a couple of Supermicro Atom and Xeon D systems and they are rock solid and well performing. The only thing one could say is that they are pretty expensive compared to some Ryzen or similar offers. I also like to err on the side of performance and stability. All ECC, all ZFS ... here.

2-3 years ago the DREAM motherboard i wanted with 41gig and dual SFP+ ports was like 750$ for the board, now they are like 1600-2k Canadian I love supermicro stuff, the 2 firewalls i'm running right now both have the Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU C3558 @ 2.20GHz (4 cores, 4 threads) cpu's Love them BUT no SFP+ ports..

Now to dive deep into OPNsense and learn lots more !!  Coming from Untangle to this
