HP t730 thin client and low bandwidth

I'm running a HP t730 thin client, a 256GB nvme, 8gb RAM, and an Intel based 4 port NIC (StarTech.com ST4000SPEXI or a Silicom PE2G4I35L v1.3), and I am struggling with bandwidth issues. When I originally set this system up about 6 months ago I was getting the full 600+mbps that I am paying for through my cable provider using the PC with OPNSense installed. About a month ago I noticed a slow down in download performance and after testing I am now getting between 300mbps and 400mbps. I do my testing using the speedtest pkg on the device to isolate it from the LAN. Running speedtests from the browser gives me even worse results that often don't even break 100mbps.
When I hook up a laptop directly to the cable modem I get the full speed. I have switched back to my old Asus router and am getting the full speed (600+mkbps) throughput as well.
I've turned off IPD/IPS and other services I have installed. I've tried pinning MSS and MTU to 1500 on the WAN interface like a number of threads recommend and haven't seen a change. I was originally running the Silicom, but I had purchased it used off of ebay used, so I bought the StarTech.com card new just in case the used card was defective.
I watch top when running these tests nothing stands out, the cpu hardly seems bothered. I have also looked through both cli and UI netstat output and there's nothing that seems to stand out there either. No huge numbers of dropped packets or anything like that. Is there anything else I can try?

OK, well, this seems to be the way it always happens. Things are improved shortly after my plea for help and I am back to getting the speeds I expected.
I reinstalled opnsense today (and restored from the backup) and read a little more about both MSS and MTU during that process. At certain points during my troubleshooting I had one or the other pinned to 1500 but never both at the same time. During the initial setup after the reinstall, I noticed that both should default to 1500 if left empty so I left them blank. I was still stuck at less than 100 mbps using the speedtest.net GUI after the reinstall.
As a hail Mary I decided to set set both MSS and MTU on my WAN interface to 1500. The next test jump speeds up nearly 700mbps and I am back in business. I've since gone through and pinned both my LAN and my WIFI interfaces to 1500 for MSS and MTU just to be safe, and to ensure things are consistent though my network.
Interesting enough, when I run speedtest from the OPNSense terminal when ssh'd in, I'm still getting the slower speeds. Anyone happen to know why that is?

What speeds are you getting when you ssh in? I was perusing the forums because I noticed when doing speed tests, my connection was maxing out between 700-800Mbs but cpu in the T730 was also maxing out. I might try running opnsense from a VM that has a bit more horsepower behind it.

Sorry I know this is an old thread but I'm curious. I have an HP t730 with an i350T4. 8GB or RAM and a 32GB Drive. When I use IPS and IDS out of box and enable all I usually get half my full bandwidth. I have Verizon FiOS at Gig and RCN Gig service at another location. Same exact t730s. If I disable IDS/IPS I can get near full line speed. I'm not strong in the Networking dept but I was hoping that the t730 would give me full line speed with IDS/IPS on. I then configured the MTU and MSS to 1500 hoping I'd see a miracle. Nada. lol My CPU spikes every once in a while. RAM usage is usually low. No clue what I did wrong.
