i just did the upgrade.
the firewall was not reachable for 15 minutes so i decided to connect a monitor.
it is the bootloader saying

can't find 'kernel'
can't find 'kernel'

cab't load 'kernel'

Type '?' for a list of commands
OK

so what do i do?

the boot kernel.old worked kind of.
it barley starts.
configuring firewall fails.
almost all services do not start.
not even the local shell.
i see there
getty: unknown gettytab entry 'default'
getty: unknown gettytab entry 'PC'

i just reimaged the firewall und upgraded again to 20.7.2
this time no problems. just imported the config and everythink is ok.
very strange

We've heard this happen every once in a while: the new kernel does not end up in the file system and so the next boot fails. Reinstall with a config import is the best option in this case if you don't want to manually restore the system.

Problem is we can't check for this on kernel install time as all utilities come back with "ok". If one would throw an error the reboot would not happen.

Cheers,
Franco

ok thanks for the quick answer.
that never happend to me befor.
first i thought maybe the harddisk crashed

I just upgraded from 20.7.2. to 20.7.3 and it happend again.
no kernel found

i start to wonder if it might be my setup config/hardware.
I'm reinstalling right now.

not the upgrade from 20.7.0 to 20.7.3 stuck at
Configrung system logging....done.
i upgraded via CLI.
COnfig import is also not working

after several tries and reboots it worked.
upgrade to 20.7.3 went through.
also config import. not sure why

very disapointing. i can't break the firewall on every update

If you do a fresh Install an Update still breaks it's something with your hardware.

well on the last try i did not import the config.
after 2nd reboot it went through and is now running fine.
Its a Dell OptiPlex 5040
i run the Dell BIOS extended diagnostics. Also testet the harddrive.
All came back clean.
Also nothing in dmesg on the running system.
Also reboots work fine. rebootet the firewall maybe 10 times. no problem
