Did you ever get any resolution to this?
I am having the same problem - I can see arp requests for the VIP and I can see responses with the 00:00:5e mac address, but my ISP also seems to ignore these. The moment I change from a carp alias to a plain IP alias, the response is for the normal physical mac and I get traffic back immediately.
