The physical interface names and the order in which you assign them to WAN, LAN, etc. ... must be identical on both nodes.

You can enforce that by creating lagg interfaces with only one member - so from an HA and firewall point of view all your interfaces would be named lagg0, lagg1, lagg2, ...

I am looking to have a similar deployment for HA using a physical device and a VM (inside a Proxmox host). I would like to confirm if this is possible. From my understanding and the reply from byDoks, it is not.
