Problem solved!

It looks like the file and/or folder permissions did not match.
The trick was/is to create the required folder via WinSCP. Then the backup works.

I would assume that there is a "problem" with the rights assignment or management. Perhaps the sftp server called up by the openSSH server under Windows has its own or at least a strange rights management. And the OPNsense cannot cope with this.

Anyone who can describe this in more detail is welcome to comment.

Es sieht so aus, das die Datei- bzw. Ordnerberechtigungen nicht gepasst haben.
Der Trick war/ist, den benötigten Ordner per WinSCP zu erstellen. Dann funktioniert es auch mit dem Backup.

Ich würde vermuten, das es ein ,,Problem" mit der Rechtevergabe oder -verwaltung gibt. Vielleicht hat der vom openSSH-Server aufgerufene sftp-server unter Windows eine eigene oder mindestens eigensinnige Rechteverwaltung. Und damit kommt die OPNsense nicht zurecht.

Wer das genauer beschreiben kann, darf das gern tun.

Ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher, was genau ich in einem SSH Datenstream sehen kann. Is's doch alles verschlüsselt.

Hi,

I can login using putty and create & delete files and folders. So yes, the user has R/W.

There is no "restict" in the pub-key.

ich habe ein Problem mit dem SFTP-backup-Plugin.

OPNsense läuft mit Version 25.7.1_1 , das sFTP plugin hat Version 1.1_2. (also wohl ausreichend aktuell)
Backup Ziel ist ein openSSH-Server auf einem WindowsServer 2025.

Die Verbindung und Anmeldung am Backup-Server funktioniert sauber. Jedoch bekomme ich immer nur die Rückmeldung "Saved settings, but remote backup returned no files." nachdem ich auf "Setup/test sftp" Button klicke. Vielleicht ist die Meldung auch korrekt.

Ich habe dazu einen cron job eingerichtet der regelmäßig läuft. Der Task startet, meldet sich an und kommuniziert mit dem Backup-Server. Allerdings wird keine Backup-Datei erstellt.

Weder auf der OPNsense noch auf dem openSSH-Server finde ich irgendwelche Hinweise auf einen Fehler. Alles scheint erfolgreich abgeschlossen zu werden, außer das es halt einfach nicht funktioniert.

Wär toll, wenn jemand helfen könnte den Fehler zu finden.

I'm having an issue with the SFTP-backup-Plugin.

OPNsense has Version 25.7.1_1
sFTP plugin hat Version  1.1_2
Backup destination is an openSSH-Server running on WindowsServer 2025.

After successfully setting up the connection and authentication, I only receive the message "Saved settings, but remote backup returned no files." when I click the "Setup/test sftp" button.

I've set up a cron job to perform a backup regularly. The job starts, connects and communicates to the backupserver, but ultimately does nothing helpful.

I don't find any error messages on neither the OPNsense or on the backup destination.

How can I figure out, what's wrong?
I would appreciate some help.
