I unfortunately have to use Bonjour specifically for a software that requires it. I'm using Serato DJ which uses Bonjour to link/talk to SoundSwitch (Lighting software). Spoke with their support and it doesn't work outside of Bonjour after running into some headaches.

I haven't yet tested disabling IPv6 entirely in OPNsense but I could if needed.

I've discovered if I disable IPv6 on any other the computers on my network, the Bonjour service runs without issue.



Perhaps there is something misconfigured with IPv6 and mDNS? Still working through to identify why this is happening, but if anyone runs into a similar issue, this is a valid workaround.

Very new to OPNSense. Hoping someone may be able to give some advice!

I've been troubleshooting an issue where the Bonjour Service on all computers across my network fails with the error message "Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly."


After extensive testing, I've narrowed down the problem to what seems to be a misconfiguration in my OPNsense router. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.



Troubleshooting Steps Taken So Far:

• Used Mobile Hotspot in place of router/home network
  I connected the affected computers to my mobile hotspot as another test. Bonjour worked perfectly on this network, confirming that the issue is isolated to my OPNsense-based network.


• Tested with another computer
  I have a new laptop that I had just factory reset with the same issue


• Tested with ISP Router (ATT BGW320):
  I temporarily swapped my OPNSense box with my ISP-provided router (ATT BGW320), and Bonjour worked without any issues on all computers


• Factory Reset Computers:
  After factory resetting one of the affected computers, the issue continued.


• Tested Different Network Interfaces:
  I tried using a USB Wi-Fi adapter to bypass the primary NIC, but the issue persisted.
  Connecting the same computer to a different network (not using OPNsense) resolved the issue, and Bonjour worked fine.


• Reinstalled Bonjour:
  I've reinstalled the Bonjour service on multiple computers, but the error persists.

Network Setup Details:

• My setup does not use any separate VLANs, so all devices are on the same interface. I looked into mDNS Repeater, but as all devices are on the same interface, I don't believe this is necessary. - Should I be using this?



• I have OPNsense configured to bypass the ATT router using XGS-PON with the fiber line coming directly into the NIC of my OPNsense router(https://pon.wiki/guides/masquerade-as-the-att-inc-bgw320-500-505-on-xgs-pon-with-the-bfw-solutions-was-110/)

I'm suspecting that there might be a firewall or another setting within OPNsense that's preventing mDNS traffic from functioning properly. Are there specific firewall rules I need to enable for multicast DNS (UDP port 5353) or Bonjour services in general? I'm using mostly default settings and thought all internal traffic was default allow on LAN.

As a side note, I'm trying to run a software that specifically requires Bonjour which triggered this issue.
