25.1, 25.4 Production Series / Multi Wan Weightage
April 20, 2025, 06:58:24 AM
Dear OPNSense Forumers,

I used to have dual WAN load balanced + failover setup based on 2x 1Gbps broadband (BB) from 2 different ISPs. I have recently upgraded/subscribed one of the BB to 10Gbps. My question is the following:

-> System > Gateway Configuration > Edit Gateway

"Weight" is only 1 to 5, How to set the 10Gbps Gateway to 10?

I need to set the 1Gbps BB to weight 1 and 10 Gbps BB to weight 10. Any suggestions on how to do this will be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Same here - multiwan load balancing not working since 24.1.10_9. Upgrading to 24.7 did not solve the issue. Even on 'load balancing' set up, behavior is like "failover" set up meaning  traffic will only route thru' active WAN.

You have to reinstall Elastic DB. I hit an error on the DB during index check. So I just reinstall the DB and it is all good now.

Upgrade from24.1.10_8 to 24.7_5 was smooth overall. Some issue encountered.

1.  Zenarmor DB (elastic 8.x) needs reinstallation else will have "error" when doing index check.
2. Multiwan on Load Balancing meaning GW1 Tier1 and GW2 Tier1 in GatewayGroup has no effect. Failover with the same settings works fine. Another odd thing is not sure how the system chooses the GW - one GW will be ACTIVE even if both are set the same weightage meaning priority 255 respectively. This function the same whether the UPSTREAM GW is selected or not in the GW config.

If anyone has a solution to pointer 2 will be much appreciated. Pointer 2 on LB mode was working fine before upgrade meaning 24.1.10_8. Not sure what broke during upgrade. Apart from these 2 issues for my use case, all are good including WireGuard VPN. In fact WireGuard speeds are faster. Kudos to the team for bringing this 24.7.
