The VGA console is working perfectly fine, I try to get the com console working over RJ45 -> USB, therefore the EIF Console.

Hi everyone!

So I have tested more and discovered the console only works on the eficonsole. However, I am still stuck on the same stage: "Mounting filesys" while on the VGA port on the same boot it outputs at this stage "Mounting filesystem" and continues booting without issue.

I noticed grey and white outputs on the VGA Port, and the console connected with PuTTY only spits out those lines written in white but not grey.

Maybe this helps to find my misconfiguration?

Hi there, thanks for all your help!

I used the serial installer but also organised a VGA cable in the meantime. Interestingly, the VGA installer gets through, and I could install OPNsense but have yet to get the console running even if I configure the console under System > Settings > Administration. I wonder why I can install OPNsense via VGA but not via serial console, and it stops after initialising the two consoles with:

I must have done something wrong, but I have less knowledge of FreeBSD/Linux to debug the setup. Maybe it also has to do with the China hardware and I should just accept it as it is... however, I like to tinker and solve such problems to get the full potential and everything running as it should

Could it maybe also have something to do with boot configuration, perhaps something along this:

Hi everyone

So, after testing a lot, I got it to a point where it is passing the EFI framebuffer information.
Quite a noobie mistake. I had to set the port speed to 115200 in the Windows Device Manager as well as in PuTTY and I only had it configured in PuTTY.

However, now I am stuck at Mounting filesys. What could be my mistake?

Thanks for your reply.

In the BIOS under Serial Port Console Redirection is the following set:
COM0 (Pci Bus0,Dev26,Func0)
Console Redirection [Enabled]

Then, there are multiple options for Console Redirection Settings and Legacy Console Redirection Settings.

Furthermore, under Serial Port for Out-of-Band Management/Windows Emergency Management Services (EMS) is the Console Redirection [Disabled]

However, that's the BIOS Console Redirection, the way I can currently select the boot device, right? If I turn off the COM0 redirection, do I retain the possibility of entering the BIOS via the USB Console connection?

I also get to the installer's splash screen on the console and can select everything there. But after that, it stops with the EFI framebuffer information.

I got a brand new Qotom Q20331G9 C3758R and tried to install OPNsense, but I noticed that the serial console stops at EFI framebuffer information. I tested the serial and VGA installer with the same result. The system has VGA as well as a Console port.

If I connect to the serial com port with PuTTY, the console stops working with the following output:

After a few minutes, I can connect over the WebUI on the LAN port with 192.168.1.1. I also tried to set the primary console to the serial console under System Settings Administration and deactivated the virtual terminal driver. But also, with this setting, the PuTTY console doesn't respond.


I am new in the Linux/FreeBSD world and have no clue about the bootloaders. The boot continues and, I guess, is redirected to the VGA. Still, I currently don't have a VGA Cable and Adapter to HDMI available. Did I miss a setting in the BIOS or during the installation to have the console continue on the Console port?
