I set opnsense up on some old hardware i had laying about as a back up for pfsense so that for what ever reason I could just unplug then swap boxes then be up and running in minutes. Pluged it in to test internet connection and some other bits and I havent swaped back other than for some testing

I ended up doing a fresh vanilla install of pfsense as my results varied quite a bit to opnsense.

Results are strange and I cant explain them but the results are repeatable

1) Ping is lower on opnsense by a noticable ammount
2) upload download speed remain the same
3) on pfsense the 7days server even with portforward and all the correct rules refused to be visable from the outside world and I lost hours trying to get that working. Seems I was not alone as many others reported the same and response seemed to be "It happens. Some steam servers work and some dont"
4) Ocasional stutters I was getting two to three times daily for sub 30 seconds have gone. I blamed that on isp but seems i was wrong

So far Im very happy with what im seeing especialy when I realised I was comparing fresh install of pfsense against opnsense and only realised after that ids and ips were turned on with opnsense.

Bad testing on my part but impressed with the results especialy when you consider my current opnsense is running on lower spec hardware.

Main thing is the wife and kids havent been shouting at me because whatsapp/snapchat have stoped working, wifes laptop is still doing its thing with video calls and ip phone so I will give it a little longer but looks to me like im here to stay.

Hi Seimus.

Im thinking its a game specific issue now.

My daughter can see her minecraft server as a local game and her friends can join

My friends can join the 7days server and although the game says no local host game available if i type the internal server ip and port I can join the game server that doesnt exist :D

I can also see my unraid server from my pc and phone, plex is working local and remote etc

Think my brain was just a bit fried by the game server not showing up yesterday so I did my cry for help on here as everything seemed to be set up correctly and I needed a second set of eyes to double check.

Going from pfsense to opnsense is familiar yet not if that makes sense? Ive got the basics but still more to learn

Thanks very much for the reply

Good afternoon

A bit of back ground... pfsense user, my first post on here and my first day using opnsense.

I have a home server (Unraid) running various programs for video media and photos. On this same machine I have a localy hosted 7days2die steam game server

opnsense is running on its own dedicated hardware not virtual

After port forwarding I can reach the game server from outside my network (tested using mobile hotspot to my pc) but the server isnt showing as available on lan.

static 192.168.1.3 is my unraid server

I can join the server by typing the local server ip and port into the game but for some reason its just not visable to click on when local. Local host games 0

I must have missed somthing simple and hoping someone can spot my mistake and set me right.
