Hey guys hope you can help
     I have a Novatel USB 551L modem here from verizon.  not my choice, just the hardware I was given to work with.  It works fine on Windows.  Took a long time but I got it to work on a ubuntu box - turns out I had an APN issue.  Now on ubuntu I can start a connection just fine.  Now we get to opnsense

The system definitely recognizes the modem.  I see it flash by as it's detected with the USB bus.  Apparently opnsense sees it as I can attempt to set it up under ppp device.  I've checked out various pages on the web.  This on here was clearest  but has most proplems.  https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/how-tos/cellular.html  It seems to indicate deb should detect it at /dev/cuaua0.1 or something.  That I do not have.  I do have a /dev/cuau0 cuau0.init and cuau0.lock. 

When I go into the gui, I can set a ppp device, it auto selected cuau0 and let me walk through the setup and add it.  I even went to assignments and made it the wan.  However I can't seem to figure out how to make it UP.  Noting shows or the IP, and I'm not even entirely sure where to look for any log files that might be being genrtated,

Any thoughts out there in TV land? :)

1) So unable to update plugins or other things = caused by  faulty drive = faulty data = potentially corrupt exported config?
2) Same machine yet different processor, different nic, maybe = different MB rev. and / or BIOS, or?
3) Importing "default" config.  Default config = nothing changed = what are you importing?
     (Importing between non/exact hardware and software versions is always dodgy)  Even the various *Nixes that provide a way to do a release upgrade advise against it because of ghosts in the machine and advice clean install and setup.

Maybe just change the HD on the old box then you can be 100% that everything is exactly the same?

300 Miles is a challenge for sure.  My solution ended up just traveling there, many a time (regionally around the north east), but YMMV.  I had to make yearly trips to some remote locations anyway, mostly small , some medium shops.

But take with a grain of salt, for sure.  They are just random thoughts offered in a friendly manner in an attempt to be at all  helpful.   I won't bother you again :)

Back to slow again this morning. I reset the state tables and back to full speed.
As I said before, this is a default installation with only flow control disabled added to the tunables.
The old box also was also a default config with no added tunables.
So far, don't see anything suspicious in the config file.

So I know i'm new here (tho ive used pf for a while and now on opn) but i'm just curious.  Several people have suggested wiping clean and starting default and building up.  You seem to be against that, while saying your old config was default config.  If the old machine was a default config, why would you be importing anything at all?  Why would you be looking for something "suspicious" in the old config instead of simply wiping fresh and building up?  I mean if the old one was "default" with nothing changed, then you gain nothing by trying to import?  So why not just rule it out?  You can always do clean wipe and try from there and if you needed something from the old "default" then you could import later, but just to troubleshoot.......

Hey all, thanks for looking.  I have a stable production environment on 23.1.9. Most things are working well

I'm using unbound and have several rules applied, and I can look at logs etc and see things are being blocked at ns lookup such as certain roku analytics and some bing, etc you get the drift.

My problem is with facebook.  Ugh i know.  My mother is a user so I have to keep most of it ublocked.  She uses her cell phone or desktop computer.  The desktop computer tries to load some games (QuizPlanet and Words with Friends being her favorites) but they just stop at 0% on the load screen.  Same thing happens with her cell phone on the wifi.  However her phone works fine using the cellular data..

I have tried having her open the games while I am watching the logs.  Either under reporting or services.  I see queries, but the all seem to go through,  Green under reporting and things like [74849:1] reply: 192.168.1.100 star-mini.c10r.facebook.com. HTTPS IN NOERROR 0.000000 1 101 uner servies. However she is still unable to play her games.  I've even tried disableing unbound, assuming it was the problem, but doesn't seem to make a difference.  I don't have an firewall rules that should interfere, and I don't think any plugins are doing it.  Any thoughts to point in the vague direction would be super helpful and appreciated.

Hi all

So I was stuck a while ago.  I tried to install a plugin and it told me it was out of date and to update - repo update went ok, actual update failed.

Took me a while to track down the problem.  So here is just a friendly suggestion/ask.  Please maybe delay the distribution of  the update until the repository actually has the files that are needed to update.  It tried starting with py something and said it wasn't there.  Finally found out only files up to o at that point had been put on the server.

Prolly doesn't effect many people, and i'm sure it was just unlucky timing on my part that I was trying to work on it at that exact moment.  Still.... :)
