Okay I was able to fix this. I ended up removing my Verizon modem/router from the equation and plug the internet Ethernet cord directly to my firewall, did a factory reset of the firewall and everything worked!

Correction… pinging via terminal on my laptop to a hostname does NOT work, I get Unknown Host error. Pinging IP is fine

Hi folks,
I’m a novice in this space, but recently got a Protecli VP2420 with OpnSense pre installed. I’ve reset to the default settings a couple times, followed countless setup videos, but for whatever reason my laptop (macOS) connected via LAN cannot access any websites via the browser.

I can ping IP addresses and hosts like google.com both within Opnsense itself and within the terminal on my laptop. I can also ping WAN, OPT1, and vice versa. Fwiw, OPT1 cannot ping any external IPs or hosts.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as I’m pretty much stuck. From what I can tell, it’ll the default config should allow LAN to access the internet unobstructed but apparently that is not the case for me.
