22.7 Legacy Series / Re: LAN locked to 10/100

Thanks for the response folks.  This was a really fun weekend project.  Unfortunately, I don't think that I'll have time to do much with it until next weekend.

It's really interesting how it should be working out of the box, but seems to be limited to 10/100.  I'll check on those connections again this weekend, I didn't know that a loose cable could cut back the speed so much.  That makes a lot of sense since I crimped these cables myself.  Maybe something is off with it.

I just connected the LAN into an old laptop with a onboard gigabit card.  I'll check back on it in a bit.

Y'all have given me some things to check on that make a lot of sense.  I'll give it another look when I get a minute.

Thanks very much for your time.

Thanks for the response.

This is a hardware firewall running on a Dell 7010.  It's gotta be something hardware based because when I used another computer (Dell 3020 Micro) with a USB gigabit adapter I get full speed.

Problem is... no "Sensei" plugin (ZenArmor) because that doesn't appear to support USB adapters.  Pretty sure that BSD is struggling with the Intel Chipset of that card.  Installing drivers for it appears to be something of a nightmare though as I am only dubiously able to navigate BSD.

22.7 Legacy Series / LAN locked to 10/100

Hi folks,

I am just getting my feet wet in the pool with this OPNSense stuff.  I love so much about this.

I love the interface, I love the plugin options, I love the customization options... the list just goes on.

...for me at least, it also has one MASSIVE, monstrous, soul crushing deal-breaker.  LAN speeds do not appear to be able to get anything over 10/100.  I have almost  a gigabit connection.  Ugh.. I can't have that at all.

I have this card here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09D3JL14S?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Both ports should be capable of gigabit ethernet, WAN and LAN.  But as you can see from the attachment "Interface.png" I've got 10/100 on LAN.  Not cool, that cuts my speed down HARD.

I see that there's an option to change that to 1000, Full Duplex.   That would be fine with me, it's as if the interface autodetected the speed incorrectly.  I thought that I would just set that manually....

....NOPE.  So much NOPE.

Doing that kills all LAN connections, disables communication with the Gateway, and renders the entire network useless.  OUCH.  Everything on that interface goes down.

Am I doing something wrong?  I am brand new to this homebrew stuff, but as of now my options are slow internet or no internet.  Does anybody have any pointers before I just go back to my Ubiquiti USG?

Thanks folks, been tinkering with this thing all day and it just doesn't work get it even if I switch Gigabit adapters, up to and including USB ones.  I've got to be missing something.
