22.7 Legacy Series / Interfaces "flapping" on 22.7.1
August 13, 2022, 04:25:16 PM
So, I have come across a bif of flapping LAN interfaces on 22.x (Including 22.7.1)

I have googled and searched the forums and found quite a few threads that talk about the same thing.

Basically, all my LAN ports have been started to yo-yo after 22.x

Initially I ran only igb2 with two tagged vlans and native when i stated seeing this issue. And now I have tried to even use physical interfaces to see if that would make any difference. But nope. ALL my interfaces EXCEPT my WAN cycles like this.

I do not use mac spoofing etc.

Box is a MiniPC with I210 interfaces. It was sold as a QOTOM box, but not sure that it is, given that it has VESA mount which I beleive the QOTOMS does not?

So, I started a thread here https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=29394.0

The I figured I'd upgrade to 22.7 but I have the same thing.

Basically, there is a "ghost RR" that I can not figure out where it originates.

I used to run home assistant in docker on a machine on my network. Now breaking it out to dedicated hardware.

But I can not get rid of the .30 RR
It is not in the override of Unbound when looking in the web UI.
It is not in the public DNS servers.
If i actually ADD the proper record to Unbound override, I will have both the 210 and 30 RR.

How can i figure out where in the world is this record originating?

root@OPNsense:~ # unbound-control -c /var/unbound/unbound.conf list_local_data | grep home
esphome.mupp.net.   3600   IN   A   172.25.74.30
homeassistant.mupp.net.   3600   IN   A   172.25.74.30
home.arpa.   10800   IN   NS   localhost.
home.arpa.   10800   IN   SOA   localhost. nobody.invalid. 1 3600 1200 604800 10800
30.74.25.172.in-addr.arpa.   3600   IN   PTR   esphome.mupp.net.
30.74.25.172.in-addr.arpa.   3600   IN   PTR   homeassistant.mupp.net.

Yeah, i see the record there. BUT, i do not see the same IP in the web interface for overrides. So, how do figure out where it comes from, and how to get rid of it?

If i add the correect A-record in Unbound overrides, the system returns BOTH addresses, and both are visible in local data.

I cannot figure out where it it getting this data.

(   OPNsense 22.1.10-amd64
FreeBSD 13.0-STABLE
OpenSSL 1.1.1q 5 Jul 2022 )

So, this is a strange one. Unbound is returning a record that really should not exist on my network any more.

It is not present in Aliases, not in the Unbound overrides. And not present in any of my public DNS servers.

Are there any tools to figure out where this stray record is hiding?
