Hey irox

In a newer OPNsense installation, I'm also struggling with VSS not working on Hyper-V.

After a long search, I found out that hv_vss apparently ONLY works with UFS:
Quotehv_vss only support UFS currently. If any of file system Partition is non UFS, the VSS capability check will fail.
Source: https://man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=hv_vss&sektion=4&apropos=0&manpath=FreeBSD+14.0-RELEASE+and+Ports

I've installed OPNsense on ZFS so that could be the problem (at least in my case).
I'll give it a try with UFS ASAP and report here (if I don't forget to).

Best regards!
Christian

Thanks for responding Franco.

As workaround:
Installing 24.7 from the ISO and online-update "upgrade" to the latest 25.1-Release worked flawless.

Solution?
I don't know if (where) else I should report it other than here.
If I can contribute anything to a sustainable solution, please let me know.

There seems to be a Problem with the OPNsense 25.1 Live-DVD on Hyper-V.
When I try to boot the Live-DVD it stops at "kdb_enter+0x33: movq $0,0xfd08d2(%rip)... (see more details on the screenshot below).

Steps to reproduce:
  • Windows Server 2025
  • New VM
  • Generation 2
  • 4GB RAM (fixed)
  • 4 vCPU's
  • 127 GB default VHDX
  • Mount original "OPNsense-25.1-dvd-amd64.iso"
  • Boot-Order: DVD first, VHD, Network
  • Secure-Boot: Disabled

(Hint: The 24.7 ISO boots and installs flawless in the exact same VM.)

Thank you!
Solution worked for me too (on Synology VMM).
