Hi all!
Just wanted to say, first and foremost, that I'm avidly following the progress of this fork. I'm a new pfSense user (new to the whole UTM thing, really) but I quite like the philosophy behind OPNSense. The interface is also very refreshing! So, kudos to the team, keep up the good work! I'm far too ignorant to be of any help development-wise; all I can do is cheer from the sidelines, but rest assured that I'm indeed doing that!
With that, I have two questions :
1. Interface. I do really love it, but would you not think that, given the very wide adoption of 16:9 monitors by most, that a horizontal layout would most take advantage of the real estate available? Especially if clicking on a menu item on the left expands it downwards - I would posit that this is one area pfSense does a bit better, with menu items laid out horizontally at the top, with hovered-over items expanding downwards. I'm assuming, though, that the interface is also quite easily customizable? If so, I suppose a horizontal layout might not be very difficult to achieve. Heck, I might even try my hand at doing that eventually!
2. ZFS support. I know someone else had already mentioned this in a separate thread, and Franco (as I recall) had mentioned he'd consider it. I'd just like to add my voice to the chorus requesting this. I can tell you that, in the short while I've used boot environments in FreeNAS 9.3 (been using FreeNAS since the very early 8.x versions), that they have already proven their worth and utility to me. Anybody who's had trouble with an upgrade of any kind can relate to this, I'm sure. I understand this is much more long-term, and that the team has higher-priority items for now - but, all I'm asking is, that you not let this drop from your crosscheck. =)
Keep cracking on, and good luck!
