Thanks for this - Step #7 had the details I was unclear on from the official docs. I followed those instructions pretty much to the letter, finished with

/usr/local/etc/rc.d/wireguard restart, and confirmed I was now routed through to the wireguard server I setup earlier today on a VPS. I'd installed the OPNsense package months ago without any luck, so this is a rare self-hosted VPN success for me:)
